New beginnings

This is a custom oil painting on deep canvas, size 48”x 60”. Price $7,500 Cdn. 
New beginnings is inspired by a trip my wife and I took to Vancouver several years ago. 
Although it was overshadowed by an atmospheric river that destroyed highways throughout the province and resulted in fatalities, I cannot discount it’s importance as an enduring source of artistic inspiration in my work. 
The rain storm that was to persist for days, started in the afternoon when we entered Chilliwack, and she began taking over 400 photos through the windshield, documenting the beginning of the storm, up to the full downpour by the time we reached Vancouver in the dark of the evening. 
Years later, this collection remains a visual treasure box that continues to inspire in surprising ways. This particular painting was meant to focus not on the ferocity of the storm, but on the inherent cheerfulness of colors seen in urban rain, a celebration of them, you might say. 
I have striven to evoke through colors, shapes and forms, the pleasant chaos you might feel at big parties like New Years, Mardi Gras, Carnivale, or the anticipation of new beginnings.
